MANILA, Philippines – Retired trial court judge Atty. Jaime B. Santiago has been appointed as director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). He took his oath of office on June 14, 2024.
Santiago served at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Western Police District from 1979 to 2000 and was known as a sharpshooter from the Special Weapons and Tactics team.
Prior to his appointment as NBI chief, he also served as the assistant city prosecutor of the DOJ-Office of the City Prosecutor of Manila; acting/presiding judge of the Manila and Tagaytay Regional Trial Courts; and Metropolitan Trial Court (MeTC) judge of Manila.
Santiago has been recognized as one of the 10 Outstanding Policemen of the Philippines by the Philippine Jaycees in 2009 and Outstanding Criminologist by the Professional Regulation Commission in 2012.
Santiago completed his bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the Philippine College of Criminology in 1988.
